RIVER READS: HOLIDAY HABITS.

When is the best time to start honing in on your holiday habits? Right now. Planning for the few days that you will be celebrating, or the holiday party, etc., just won’t cut it. Set yourself up for success by working on yourself now, so that you can be your best you over the holidays.

Here are some simple holiday habits that you can put into practice - starting today!

  1. Eat normally on the day of. Waiting all day to eat until you get to where you’re going - we don’t want that for you. By waiting out the day and going without food, you will absolutely experience a blood sugar crash. When this happens, anxiety can spike, and fatigue, nausea and shakiness can set it. That’s no way to feel on the way to a party! If you’re looking to change things up with what you are eating on the day of, or on the days leading up to an event - that’s a different conversation, and it can be a great thing to do! You could have a grain-free day, a sugar-free day, a water day, an up your greens day, etc. Planning out your day/days allows you to focus on specifics and feel your best when you get to where you’re going.

  2. Water, water, water! Dehydration = low energy, low engagement, and low moods. Did you know that dehydration can actually mask itself as hunger? When we’re dehydrated, our bodies send signals to our brains that present very similarly to those sent when we’re hungry. As a result, you may end up snacking endlessly when, honestly, your cells just really need water (and electrolytes!).

  3. Move your body. Sometimes this gentle reminder is needed over the holidays - on repeat. Movement, activity, and exercise are key to keeping you in a great mood, with your body feeling strong and supportive. Not to mention that movement helps with regularity. If you experience holiday or travel - or even weekend - bowel irregularity (aka constipation) due to a change in eating & water habits, then making sure exercise fits into your holiday routine will definitely benefit you. You want to feel lighter and brighter to maximize the good times over the holidays!
